As part of its renewed focus Research on Digital Education, the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Education and Learning (LDE-CEL) currently comprises ten PhD-students. In the upcoming months, we’ll introduce the researchers and their projects. This month we'll introduce Bibeg Limbu and his research to you. 

Furthermore, our full program for the Annual Meeting on December 7 is online. We give you an update about the 100 days of Data for learning kick-off event and of course news from our partners.

 
 

Holograms for hybrid classrooms

COVID has shown us that distance education, in its current form, is far from a pleasurable experience, thereby negatively impacting student performance. In the HoloLearn project, Bibeg Limbu investigates whether holograms can stimulate richer social interactions, bringing back liveliness into distance education.

The LDE CEL Annual Meeting is a yearly event where we showcase our achievements and plans for the year to come. Each year we pick a different theme that we explore together with keynote speakers, workshops and panels.

Keynote at eLearning Netzwerktag

Our director Marcus Specht will give a keynote during the 'eLearning Netwerktag' on November 28. 

This keynote will be about: Challenges and opportunities of digitization in university education.

100 days of Data for Learning
Last October 20 we had the kick-off of the 100 days of Data for Learning event. 

On this day we presented our plans for the upcoming events. After these presentations, the group was divided into three different groups for the World Cafe setup. At each table, participants could give feedback to us about what they expect or what they want to learn. 

The outcomes of this day can be found on our Miro board.

The CAT: Sensor-based deliberate practice to extend the expert's presence
Almost two months ago there was the ECTEL conference. During this conference Oliver, our LDE-CEL MSc. student, presented his paper about CaT. Research we won't you to miss out on.

Our CEL member Bibeg Limbu is, in collaboration with other universities, editing a special issue on immersive systems.

Need data-sets for your research? Happy to help
The TU Delft Extension School for Continuing Education is open to collaborations with educators and researchers who wish to use data from its online courses to explore educational topics and to gain insights into learning behaviours.

Several lecturers and researchers from LDE-CEL and partner institutions have already used data made available from several of its MOOCs in the past. In addition to data access, the Extension School offers advice and support on setting up and running GDPR-compliant experiments to further innovation in education.

Representation for non-traditional roads to research
Jana Vietze (assistant professor at EUR ESSB) aims to increase the visibility of inspiring social scientists and of cutting-edge research on diversity aspects. She started the (Re)Searching Diversity Podcast, in which researchers talk about their path to the academic world. Their topics offer students a better understanding of research(ers), both academically and personally.
