As part of its renewed focus 'Research on Digital Education', the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Education and Learning (LDE-CEL) currently comprises ten PhD-students. In the upcoming months, we’ll introduce the researchers and their projects. This month we'll introduce Vivian van der Werf and her research to you. 

Furthermore, our Annual Meeting will be on the 7th of December, and we are happy to announce our first keynote. Also, the '100 days of' event is back this year, the kick-off will be on the 20th of October. 

Interested in Gamification? Our partner at Leiden is organising two workshop all about gamification within education. 
 
CEL Annual meeting, first keynote announce!
The LDE CEL Annual Meeting is a yearly event where we showcase our achievements and plans for the year to come. Each year we pick a different theme that we explore together with keynote speakers, workshops and panels.

This year's theme will be ‘Developing a Culture of Learning Analytics'. 

One of our keynotes on this day will be: Hendrik Drachsler, Professor EdTech, DIPF Germany.

Title of keynote: Designing highly-informative competency-driven feedback with learning analytics.

100 Days of Data for Learning, kick-off!

Together with 4TU.CEETU Delft Teaching Academy, TU Delft Teaching and Learning Services, and the TU Delft Extension School, we are proud to present our plans for 100 days of collaboratively exploring data for learning in engineering education!


The kick-off will take place on October 20th.

Syntax error: revisiting programming education from a natural language perspective
Sure, it is possible to learn computer programming by browsing a coding book and using the internet whenever you get stuck. But with knowledge of programming becoming ever more important in our society, it is high time to develop accessible educational support that can reach a wide range of people. Vivian van der Werf addresses this challenge from a natural language perspective.

Sefi 2022 - Connect with the research community
After almost two years of Covid, it is finally possible to attend a conference in person. For our PhDs', which started almost all during Covid times, it was an eye opener how much-added value a conference can be for your PhD ‘life’. The most valuable thing they learned was the added value of connecting with other researchers within the research community like Sefi.

Number one in the list of 'Most Read'!

During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, our CEL-member Gitte van Helden and Anna Shvarts investigated what embodied learning materials for mathematics had to offer in times of distance learning. A while ago, their results were published in Mathematical Thinking and Learning. 

Currently, it is number one on the 'Most Read' list, in the Mathematical Thinking and Learning journal.

On September 12, 2022 within RAPIDE e-Course: Module 2 - Let's innovate assessment an excellent Live Talk Show via Zoom was held.

It was moderated by Naomi Wahls and project expert Gillian Saunders-Smits (TU Delft) with guests:

Improving the visual literacy of law and criminology students
In January 2022, the CLI awarded several new fellowships to lecturers at Erasmus University Rotterdam who wish to develop, apply and research new teaching methods. One of the newly appointed fellows is Associate Professor of Criminology Gabry Vanderveen of the Erasmus School of Law, whose fellowship will be devoted to seeking to improve the visual literacy of law and criminology students.

Gamification: improve your course with game didactics.

Gamification is a way to make courses more interactive, improve learning and stimulate students to come to class well prepared. It’s not about playing Mario, but about how you can give formative feedback (for example by using online home-made card games) and stimulate engagement (for example by using levels, rewards, and competition).
